S&W Recalls Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols

1. This is a fine Walther PPK pistol with the high desirable/scarce 'RZM' markings on the slide. The Reichs Zeugmeisterei (RZM) served as the quartermasters office of the National Socialists (NSDAP) and later became the chief approving authority on many types of military weapons, clothing, textiles and some raw materials. The 'RZM' markings are found in several serial numbers ranges, during.
2. Model PP and PPK pistols are found with a variety of markings. Some of these are merely factory serial numbers and proof marks indicating that the gun has functioned safely when fired with high pressure cartridges. In addition to the serial number and proof marks, Model PP and PPK will often be found with Nazi party abbreviations and insignia.

The serial number is '9800AAA'. I have never seen a serial number end in 3 letters, let alone three of the same letter. My initial impression was that the gun was made in 1998, but that does not seem to jive with other PPKS serials from around that time frame.

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson’s Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.

This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002, until February 3, 2009. The Serial Numbers of the pistol subject to this recall are as follows:
